29. Karl Blau
My friend Karl Blau could have been an oyster mogul, but instead he's a living legend in the home recorded music scene, and has been for quite a while. My previous guest Phil Elverum even named a Microphones song after him! He talks about playing at Grange halls with his first band Captain Fathom, creating handmade album art, and his stint as the bass player for doom metal pioneers Earth. Hear why, even after recording over 40 albums, he released one called "Introducing Karl Blau," and why a prominent symbol of Pacific Northwest indie music relocated to Philly. We also discuss our time on the road together when, every morning, he would write out sheet music for a new song for each band member... on foliage found during his morning walk. His most recent album at the time of this interview was a not-just-for-kids album, "Children of All Ages."
